향취는 통영국제음악제 위촉작품으로 피리와 어(敔)를 위해서 작곡한 곡이다.
어는 음악을 끝낼 때 상징적 의미로 사용하는 악기인데, 악기로서의 기능을 적극적으로 활용하여 썼으며, 피리에서 서양적 평균율이 아닌 음정의 위아래로의 변화와 민속적인 색채, 정악에서의 차용, 시조와 답가의 주고 받기를 사용하여 연주하였다.
Hyangchwi(Scent) is a piece commissioned by the Tongyeong International Music Festival and was composed for the flute and Eo (敔).
Eo is an instrument used in a symbolic meaning when ending Korean traditional court music, but here, it is used by actively utilizing its function as a musical instrument. It is a complex of several forms and styles. For Piri, it was composed using the change of pitch up and down instead of the Western temperament, folk styles, quotation from Jeongak(court music), and Sijo and Dapga (exchanging poetic tradition).
