퍼커셔니스트 Sori Choi (최소리)의 첫 번째 앨범, [EXPANSION & CONNECTION]

 

한국 타악기 음악의 새로운 가능성을 모색하며 다양한 시도를 하고 있는 퍼커셔니스트 최소리가 타악기 솔리스트를 위한 여섯 개의 작품들로 구성한 첫 앨범을 발매한다.

 

이번 앨범에는 국내외에서 활발하게 활동하고 있는 동시대 작곡가들이 한국 타악기를 바라보는 시선을 담은 작품들 중 장구의 연주법이 확장된 강효지의 []과 꽹과리로 장단을 짚어나가는 김혜원의 [반 평], 소리북의 타점을 세분화하여 편곡한 이정혜의 [], 정주를 위한 Pierluigi Billone[Mani.Gonxha], 그리고 타악기 셋업곡인 강혜리의 [에굽은 소나무 V]와 박영희의 [타령 IV]을 담았다.

 

타악기의 가능성을 확장해나가는 여섯 명의 동시대 작곡가들과 한국 타악기 주자 최소리의 연결이 이뤄내는 여러 실험적인 시도를 통해 많은 리스너들에게 영감을 주는 앨범이 되기를 바란다.

Percussionist Sori Choi, who is making various attempts while exploring new possibilities for Korean percussion music, is releasing her first album consisting of six works for percussion soloists.

She hopes that the album will inspire many listeners through various experimental attempts made by the six contemporary composers expanding the possibilities of percussion and Korean percussionist Sori Choi.

Just as the twisted threads, the musical material twists time and space to express a mixture of various shapes. Hyo Jee used an extended performance method along with the traditional playing method of Janggu realized in a new rhythm created by the composer.

한국과 유럽을 중심으로 활발한 활동을 벌이고 있는 타악기 연주자 최소리는 국악고등학교, 서울대학교 및 동대학원에서 국악 타악을 전공하였다. 연주자로서 스웨덴 칼브 음악제, 이탈리아 파니칼레 음악제, 덴마크 오르후스 페스티벌, 캐나다 뉴뮤직 콘서트, 네덜란드 월드 미니멀뮤직 페스티벌, 대만 웨이우잉 아트페스티벌 등 국제 무대에서 연주하였고 국내에서도 국립국악원 금요공감, 천차만별콘서트, 대구현대음악제에서 초청연주를 가진바 있다.

 

세계 여러 나라의 현대음악 작곡가들과 다양한 공동작업을 통하여 한국 타악기의 새로운 가능성을 확장해나가고 있으며 그녀를 위하여 작곡한 신작들을 초연하였다. 독일 다름슈타트 음악제, 스위스 바젤 음악원, 덴마크 왕립음악원 등 해외교육기관과 더불어 국립국악원 등지에서 해외 음악가를 위한 워크숍과 강좌를 가지고 한국악기에 대한 이해를 높이는 작업을 지속하고 있다.

Sori Choi (최소리) is a Korean traditional percussionist known for performing traditional Korean musical styles and contemporary art music by modern composers.

 

Choi was born in Seoul, South Korea. She began studying janggu at age 6.[1] Choi studied traditional Korean percussion instruments at the National High School of Korean Music and at the Music College of Seoul National University. She is a student of two Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Korea master percussionists, studying janggu with Kim Yeong-taek and soribuk (barrel drum buk used in pansori) with Park Geun-young.

 

In 2010, Choi began touring internationally with the Korean Music Project (KMP),[2] sponsored by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. She has given world premieres by many Korean and European contemporary composers,[3] and has given presentations, performances, and workshops on traditional Korean percussion instruments at many international music festivals, including the 2012 and 2014 Darmstädter Ferienkurse (Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music).
